Norwood is a new café at the Burwood Brickworks complex in Melbourne’s east, and the brand needed to feel at home in a precinct built around its brickmaking history while still reading unmistakably as a place for good coffee and food.
We started with the two things the café is made of: bricks and coffee. The brandmark stacks a coffee cup on a small tower of bricks, a simple mark that works at every size from a takeaway lid to external signage. A circular badge version reading Norwood Coffee & Food gives the team a second mark for stamps, stickers and social media where the full lockup would be too fine.
The palette pairs a deep navy with a soft blush pink. Navy carries the confidence and warmth of the brick setting, while the blush lifts the brand and keeps it approachable across a long café day. A dot pattern drawn from the brandmark adds texture to packaging and print without competing with the logo.
The identity was then rolled out across the touchpoints a café lives on: takeaway cups, ceramic cups for dine-in, staff tees, external signage and the Instagram launch post that introduced Norwood to the neighbourhood before opening day. The result is a brand that is easy for the team to apply consistently and easy for customers to recognise at a glance.
