Design Trend Forecast

As a design agency, we know that it’s not about following trends but rather creating them.

We don’t just follow what everyone else does — but forge ahead with our own path. But isn’t there just something so tantalisingly fun about making predictions? We’ve looked into the cards (and our hearts) to see just what design trends are coming this year.

Sustainable Packaging

It’s not enough just to say that you’re green — you need to put your money where your mouth is. Or should we say the ethics behind your branding.

Consumers don’t want their products ‘greenwashed’ but want to know all the nitty-gritty about where their product comes from. We have seen this trend especially in Gen Z who want to support brands that align with their values. This means that brands are getting innovative with reusable or compostable packaging. It’s not just about being environmentally friendly, it’s about making ethical buying choices right across the supply chain.

Have a look at these shower sheets below. The entire ‘package’ dissolves in the shower. How’s that for leaving no trace?

Funky Fonts

They’re funky, alright?

Gone are the days of serif or sans-serif — it’s all about personalised fonts for your brand. We’re talking bright, bold and completely unique. In fact, it looks like the brighter the better. After years of minimalism, we are predicting a real return to maximalism. With a hint of 90s nostalgia.

We are in love with these Get Camp designs. The font is playful without being childish and is sure to bring a smile to your face. And remind you of happier days under the summer sun.

Here is another beautiful design. This coffee packaging uses two fonts, Frito Vandito and SP Blunt to an amazing effect. Although the colours might be simple, the execution is anything but.

Time For Takeout

Who else has gotten a lot (and yes we mean a lot) more takeout over the past few years?

As we all order out more, and stay in — brands are turning to specialty takeout designs to ensure a delightful experience even if it’s on your couch. Burger King underwent a massive rebrand in 2021 which saw them kick it back to their roots with bold colours and retro fonts. Have a look here.

It’s not just big brands that are changing their packaging. Take a look at this beautiful design for The Sando House. Beautiful simplicity meets clever design with these takeout bags. We will take two, please!

Time To Be Bold

Have we mentioned minimalism is out?

It’s not just bold fonts and bright colours — it’s both. At the same time. There is a joyful energy returning to branding design with more and more people seeking our brands that make them feel good. You want to stand out and it all begins with beautiful branding.

Does this look like cereal or art? It’s both with the stunning design from Bakuli.

They’re not ice-cream tubs but in fact smoothie ingredients. We absolutely love the use of jumbled lettering and the colour palette.
